Luis Medina SP | OAK
Athletics' Luis Medina: Expected to start Sunday
Medina (knee) is slated to start Sunday's series finale with Atlanta, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
Medina has missed the entirety of the 2024 campaign to this point while recovering from a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee that he suffered March 4 at spring training. The 25-year-old made two starts with Triple-A Las Vegas on a rehab assignment, surrendering seven runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over six innings. He'll be tasked with facing one of the best lineups in Atlanta on Sunday in his first major-league start of the year.

Dylan Covey RP | PHI
Phillies' Dylan Covey: Moves to 60-day IL
The Phillies transferred Covey (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Saturday.
Covey has been on the IL since the beginning of the season due to a right shoulder strain, so his move to the 60-day IL has no effect on his return date. It does, however, open a spot on Philadelphia's 40-man roster for Freddy Tarnok, who was claimed off waivers from Oakland on Saturday.

Freddy Tarnok RP | OAK
Phillies' Freddy Tarnok: Claimed by Phillies
The Phillies claimed Tarnok (hip) off waivers from Oakland on Saturday, reinstated him from the 60-day injured list, and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Tarnok has been on the injured list all season while recovering from a hip procedure he underwent in August. He began a rehab assignment in Triple-A on May 8, allowing 11 earned runs in just 7.1 innings. He'll remain in Triple-A upon making a full recovery and shifting to a new organization, though a drastic turnaround would likely be necessary before Tarnok spends any time in the Phillies' bullpen. Dylan Covey (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Masataka Yoshida DH | BOS
Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Takes batting practice Saturday
Yoshida (thumb) took live batting practice in Boston on Saturday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Yoshida was able to take another step in his recovery from the strain left thumb that has sidelined him since May 1. The outfielder said Saturday that he is "over the injury and it's a matter of building up," according to Abraham. Yoshida will likely need to embark on a multi-start rehab assignment prior to being activated from the injured list.

Logan Gillaspie RP | SD
Padres' Logan Gillaspie: Back with Friars
The Padres recalled Gillaspie from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.
With Yu Darvish (groin) and Joe Musgrove (elbow) both headed for the injured list, Gillaspie and Randy Vasquez will come up from the minors to fill the openings in San Diego's pitching staff. Gillaspie has appeared in two games for the Padres this year, throwing 2.2 shutout innings, but he has posted a 5.17 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 15.2 frames in Triple-A. He will likely be limited to low-leverage situations while with the big-league club.

Yu Darvish SP | SD
Padres' Yu Darvish: Lands on injured list
The Padres placed Darvish on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a left groin strain.
Darvish had to make an early exit from his start Wednesday against Miami due to hamstring problems, but the issue appears to instead be groin-related. His move to the IL is backdated to Thursday, allowing him to be eligible to return June 14. He will be joined by fellow starter Joe Musgrove (elbow) on the injured list while Randy Vasquez and Logan Gillaspie come up from Triple-A El Paso to take their places.
