  • Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Homers in return

Heyward went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a hit-by-pitch in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Heyward returned from a back injury that cost him nearly seven weeks. He delivered a big hit with his eighth-inning blast, which was his first homer in five games this season. The outfielder has added four RBI and four runs scored. Heyward is likely to command at least a strong-side platoon role in right field moving forward, which is one he excelled in with a .269/.340/.473 slash line over 374 plate appearances in 2023.

  • Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Belts another leadoff homer

Betts went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two total runs scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Betts' last two homers have been of the leadoff variety, and they're his only two long balls in May. He's hitting .283 this month, though that's dropped his season-long average to a still-stunning .341 through 47 contests. Betts has added eight homers, 29 RBI, 40 runs scored, eight stolen bases, 11 doubles and three triples over 218 plate appearances while serving as the everyday leadoff hitter.

  • Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani: Goes deep again Friday

Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-3 win over the Reds.

Ohtani reclaimed a share of the major-league lead in homers with his 13th long ball of the year, which came off Frankie Montas in the third inning. Over his last 12 games, Ohtani's slugged six homers with 12 RBI and seven multi-hit efforts. He's slashing an electrifying .358/.426/.676 with 32 RBI, 36 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, 16 doubles and a triple through 204 plate appearances while occupying the No. 2 spot in the Dodgers' stacked lineup.

  • Dodgers' James Paxton: Decent in no-decision

Paxton allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out two without walking a batter over six innings in a no-decision versus the Reds on Friday.

Paxton did fine, though he gave up solo home runs to Stuart Fairchild and Tyler Stephenson to account for two of the three runs on his line. After posting just one quality start over five outings in April, Paxton has settled in with three in a row to begin May. The southpaw has done well at run prevention this year with a 2.84 ERA despite a 1.38 WHIP and 24:24 K:BB through 44.1 innings over eight starts. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Diamondbacks.

  • Dodgers' Nick Ramirez: Back down to Triple-A

The Dodgers optioned Ramirez to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Ramirez was recalled for Thursday's game against the Reds. He pitched 2.1 innings and gave up three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter. Ramirez has appeared in six major-league games this season, registering a 3.86 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 9.1 frames. The Dodgers recalled right-hander Ricky Vanasco in a corresponding move.

  • Dodgers' Ricky Vanasco: Recalled by Los Angeles

The Dodgers recalled Vanasco from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Vanasco made his major-league debut April 15 against the Nationals, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out one batter. He was optioned to Triple-A the next day, and he has not yielded an earned run over his last four bullpen outings with Oklahoma City. To make room for Vanasco, the Dodgers optioned southpaw Nick Ramirez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

  • Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Officially promoted

The Dodgers recalled Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

Vargas has served as Oklahoma City's left fielder all season, slashing .302/.442/.590 with eight homers and 39 RBI across 181 plate appearances. The 24-year-old hasn't found the same success in the majors with a .640 OPS, but he could still draw starts in the outfield on days the Dodgers are matched up against a left-handed starter. James Outman was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Dodgers' James Outman: Sent to Triple-A

The Dodgers optioned Outman to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

After a successful 2023 campaign, Outman has struggled mightily to begin 2024, slashing just .147/.250/.266 across 124 plate appearances. He'll now look to get back on track in the minors, though a significant turnaround would likely be required before the Dodgers consider calling him back up. Outman's demotion likely spells consistent playing time in center field for Andy Pages and clears a roster spot for Jason Heyward (back) to return from the injured list.

  • Dodgers' Max Muncy: Placed on IL with oblique strain

The Dodgers placed Muncy on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a Grade 1 right oblique strain.

Muncy last played Wednesday against the Giants and was left out of the starting lineup Thursday against the Reds. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed that Muncy sustained a Grade 1 right oblique strain during batting practice before Thursday's game, and the veteran outfielder will not swing a bat for two-to-three days, per David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports. Before landing on the IL, Muncy was slashing .223/.323/.475 with nine home runs and 28 RBI over 167 plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Back in starting lineup

Heyward (back) is starting in right field and batting eighth in Friday's game against the Reds, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Heyward appeared in just five games for the Dodgers, going 3-for-14 with two RBI before landing on the 10-day injured list April 3 due to lower-back tightness. It took about a month for the 34-year-old to return to baseball activities, and he appeared in two games with Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier in the week, going 0-for-6 with one walk and two strikeouts. The move corresponds with Max Muncy being placed on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain.

  • Dodgers' Miguel Vargas: Slated for promotion

The Dodgers will recall Vargas from Triple-A Oklahoma City, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The Dodgers are also set to activate Jason Heyward (back) from the injured list. There's no word yet on what the corresponding moves will be, but a demotion for James Outman is one scenario. Vargas has been used exclusively in left field with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, slashing .295/.437/.583 with eight home runs and eight stolen bases. He could see ample playing time in left field for the Dodgers.

  • Dodgers' Anthony Banda: Traded to Los Angeles

Banda was traded from the Guardians to the Dodgers for cash considerations Friday.

Banda will head to Los Angeles after playing with the Guardians' Triple-A affiliate in Colombus. The 30-year-old left-hander logged a 2.12 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with a 25:6 K:BB across 17.0 IP with the Clippers this season.

  • Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow: Fans eight in loss

Glasnow (6-2) took the loss against the Reds on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight over five innings.

Glasnow ran into trouble early, surrendering a leadoff homer to Will Benson to open the contest along with an RBI double to Tyler Stephenson four batters later. The Reds would get to Glasnow again in the third and fifth innings, marking only the second time this season he's allowed four or more runs in an outing. The right-hander had logged four consecutive quality starts coming into Thursday and still carries a 3.32 ERA in May to go along with a 28:4 K:BB. He's also struck out at least eight batters in five straight starts.

  • Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Return imminent

Heyward (back) rejoined the Dodgers on Thursday but was not activated from the injured list, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Heyward began a rehab assignment Tuesday and appeared in two games with Triple-A Oklahoma City, during which he went 0-for-6. Manager Dave Roberts said Heyward is ready to return soon, so it's likely he'll be activated at some point during the Dodgers' weekend series against the Reds.

  • Dodgers' Eduardo Salazar: Back in minors

The Dodgers optioned Salazar to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Salazar was recalled from Triple-A and made his season debut Wednesday, allowing one unearned run while striking out three batters and walking two across two innings. He'll now return to the minors in favor of Nick Ramirez, who was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Dodgers' Nick Ramirez: Brought back up

The Dodgers recalled Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Ramirez has allowed just one run across seven big-league innings this season, and he has thrown 5.2 shutout frames in Triple-A since being sent down in late April. The 34-year-old southpaw will likely serve in middle relief while with the Dodgers, and Eduardo Salazar will head back to Oklahoma City in a corresponding move.

  • Dodgers' Emmet Sheehan: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

The Dodgers announced that Sheehan (elbow) underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery Wednesday.

Sheehan has been on the shelf all season with what the Dodgers had initially classified as right forearm inflammation. He had been cleared to face hitters in late March, only for the Dodgers to shut him down in mid-April after he experienced a setback in his recovery. A month after being shut down, the 24-year-old still wasn't responding to rest and rehab as well as the Dodgers had hoped, and after meeting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, Sheehan was recommended for Tommy John surgery. He'll miss the rest of the 2024 season and a significant chunk of the 2025 season while he recovers from the procedure.
