Arrighetti not only recorded the first quality start of his career, he also fanned a career-high eight batters and didn't allow any extra-base hits. The rookie right-hander did walk three batters -- he's issued multiple free passes in each of his nine starts on the campaign -- but none of those came back to hurt him. Arrighetti has been making a case to stick in the Astros' rotation following a slow start to the campaign. He held an 8.44 ERA after a poor outing May 8 but has since won three of his past four starts with a 3.63 ERA over that stretch.

The final run charged to the rookie scored after he exited, as he was pulled following consecutive singles to start the bottom of the sixth and watched one of those inherited runners touch home. Arrighetti's next outing is tentatively slated to come next week at home versus the Twins.

Arrighetti gave up a run in the first inning and didn't allow another until the Brewers plated three runs in the seventh. It was the longest outing of his MLB career and his first time finishing at least six frames. Arrighetti has now won two straight starts after beginning his MLB career 0-4. He'll carry a 7.16 ERA and a 36:17 K:BB into his next outing, which is lined up to be in Oakland next weekend.

Houston was ahead by just one run when the right-hander departed, but a strong performance by the team's bullpen and a late offensive surge ensured that the rookie held onto his first win as a major-leaguer. Arrighetti has managed to stick in the rotation despite posting a 7.52 ERA through six starts, so Monday's victory was a much-needed positive outing in terms of his chances of hanging on as a starter. Still, with Cristian Javier recently coming off the injured list and Jose Urquidy (forearm) potentially soon to follow, Arrighetti may not be long for the big-league rotation.

Arrighetti struggled with a trio of losses and a 10.97 ERA over his first three starts, but he was much more effective against the Guardians on Thursday. The right-hander went a season-high 5.2 frames and tied a season low with two runs allowed, falling just one out shy of a quality start. Despite the promising outing, Arrighetti could drop out of Houston rotation soon with Cristian Javier (neck) making progress toward a return from the injured list.

With Justin Verlander recently returning from the injured list, Arrighetti looked like a candidate to lose out on a rotation spot, but Houston is ultimately keeping the rookie around as their No. 5 starter after the club instead chose to option J.P. France to Triple-A Sugar Land last week. Arrighetti likely doesn't have a long leash with Houston, however, as he's posted a 10.97 ERA and 2.34 WHIP in 10.2 innings through his first three big-league outings.

The seven punchouts were nice, and Arrighetti racked up 13 whiffs among his 90 pitches, but Chicago's bats were productive when they made contact. All four of the runs against the right-hander came in the first inning, with the biggest blow being a three-run homer off the bat of Dansby Swanson. Arrighetti has lost all three of his outings this season while posting a 10.97 ERA and 2.34 WHIP, so it's fair to wonder if he'll get another chance to start anytime soon, especially with Houston having two days off over the next week.
