  • Rays' Aaron Civale: Better vs. Orioles

Civale didn't factor into the decision Friday against Baltimore, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out three.

Civale was sharp Friday, blanking the Orioles for five innings before he was ultimately charged with a lone run in the sixth. The 28-year-old Civale has been pitching better of late, allowing just three runs over 10.1 innings in his last two starts after struggling to an 8.48 ERA over his previous six outings. Overall, he's 2-4 on the year with a 5.37 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 60:18 K:BB across 62 innings. Civale's currently lined up for a rematch with Baltimore at home in his next start.

  • Rays' Aaron Civale: Allows two runs Saturday

Civale allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over five innings in a no-decision versus the Royals on Saturday.

Civale did a fine job, limiting the damage to a Nelson Velazquez solo shot in the second inning and a Bobby Witt RBI single in the third. This was Civale's eighth straight start without a win, though he's at least managed to complete five innings in each of his last three outings after a run of four starts where he failed to do so. The right-hander has a poor 5.72 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 57:15 K:BB over 56.2 innings across 11 starts this season. He's projected for a tough road start in Baltimore his next time out.

  • Rays' Aaron Civale: Fans six in no-decision

Civale came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox, giving up three runs on five hits over five innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The right-hander kept Boston off the board his first time through the order, but a two-run double by Dominic Smith in the fourth inning and a solo shot by Ceddanne Rafaela in the fifth sent Civale packing after 76 pitches (53 strikes). He's failed to last more than five innings in any of his last five starts, a stretch in which he's stumbled to an 8.87 ERA and 1.71 WHIP, and his rotation spot could be in jeopardy if he doesn't turn things around by the time Ryan Pepiot (leg) and Shane Baz (elbow) are ready to rejoin the team. Civale lines up to make his next start on the road this weekend in Toronto.

The right-hander got the next two batters out but then yielded a single and a walk before getting the hook. It was the fourth straight game in which Civale was yanked from a start during the fifth inning, and he's recorded an ugly 9.82 ERA and 1.91 WHIP along with a 17:8 K:BB over 18.2 frames during that stretch.
